Self Storage: A Room For Everyone

By Adriana Noton

Self storage is something that most of us will need and use at some time in our lives. The industry has come a long way from simple garage type rooms and now encompasses a wide variety of storage options. The options available to consumers allows them to find the option that best meets their needs.

Self storage locations can be found almost anywhere and one is sure to be convenient to your location. Most facilities are a maze of garage type rooms that a consumer can lease for a set period of time. These facilities offer a great variety in the size of storage available, so that one can be found to meet any need. These various sizes can make it easy for the consumer to find exactly what they need at the price they need.

These facilities usually have easily accessible units that you pull up to and unload your belongings. You usually provide your own lock for your rental unit and pay a monthly fee that depends on the location and size of your rental unit. This a great place to put items you do not use every day but are not sure you are ready to get rid of. It is also very convenient for those in between homes or those who just have a need for additional storage. Depending on the location, some facilities even offer the use of a moving truck to help you get your things to their location. This free perk is usually just for move in, not move out and is usually a onetime deal, and is not usually available to move additional items to your unit.

In addition to garage type facilities, many facilities now offer additional options. You can find air conditioned units and some facilities even offer security patrolled units. These options are usually available at additional cost, but may be necessary, depending on the needs of the consumer. Many facilities even offer storage for those vehicles you cannot store at home, including recreational vehicles and boats. This provides an option for consumers who need this type of storage. All of these facilities try to make access convenient to their consumers and a security code will usually be given to access the property through any gates or fences.

Other concepts in self storage began appearing some time ago. Some of the options that we have seen are companies that will, for a fee, delivery a storage container to your home. They will give you a set time to fill it, and then will pick it up and move it to their storage location. This can be especially convenient when you are taking time to go through a home and putting certain things in storage. This would also be convenient when you are packing a whole house and putting it into storage between homes.

The benefit to this version of self storage is that you can take your time to fill the unit and be able to add things daily, rather than make trips back and forth to a rented storage unit. However, unlike a typical unit, these units are usually stacked atop one another. This makes it necessary for you to call the facility in advance and request access to your unit. This is contrast to your typical facility which allows for much easier access without advance notice. However, each consumer must decide which benefits they need and for someone who may not be accessing their items for a while and who might need the additional loading time, this could be the right option.

Not only can you have storage units delivered to your home, but you can now keep them there indefinitely. Some companies are now offering self storage at home. They can lease or sell you a unit that you will keep on your property. Size and price of these units vary with the needs of the consumer. This may be a great way for someone with extra outdoor space to create more storage immediately. This option may be harder for someone with limited space on their property, but each consumer can decide for themselves.

So many options are available for self storage that anyone who finds themselves needing storage solution should do some research before making a choice. Check out the different options available to you and make a choice depending on your needs and budget. With so much to choose from it should be hard to find a solution that is best for you and your wallet. - 42631
